| Riddickstyle - You're not afraid of the dark, are you? |
Where the hell can I get more of Riddick?
Gotta kill a few people. Then you got to get sent to a slam, where they tell you you'll never see daylight again. They call it Riddickstyle, the only Triple-Max in the sector run by and for fans of Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick.
There are inmates and there are convicts. So, which are you gonna be? You gonna register, or are you just passing through? | |

If that title isn't reason enough to get excited, here are two better ones: 1.) new interviews with David Twohy, Judi Dench, Thandie Newton, Colm Feore, Karl Urban, Alexa Davalos, and lots of Vin Diesel 2.) new, never-before-seen Chronicles of Riddick film footage! That's right, this Sci-Fi Channel interview contains material unavailable anywhere else. Over the years, a number of sharp-eyed fans have noticed minor differences between the footage on the extended cut of the film, Universal's Riddick Sizzle Reel (courtesy of director David Twohy), some of the movie programs and the promotional trailers. Like most films, the production team filmed a number of alternative scenes that were later cut. These include Riddick using a ship locator on Helion Prime, Riddick being loaded onto the rocket sled on Crematoria and at least two variations of Riddick's initial "There are inmates and there are convicts" interchange with The Guv. Unfortunately, none of these scenes were ever included as extra content on any of the different DVD releases or bonus discs. Until the fans of the franchise generate sufficient and lasting demand for a more comprehensive release, footage cut from the film will remain stored and forgotten in the studio vaults, unseen except for rare appearances like this one. Which scenes? No spoilers, here! It's new Riddick footage. This is the first new footage from the movie since it debuted on June 11, 2004.
...and it's all thanks to new member Furyanthony! From the moment he contacted Riddickstyle with his amazing find, he's been incredibly accommodating at every step of making this footage available. It's easy to overlook what an exceptional amount of hard work goes into professionally editing out all the commercials, encoding, splitting, then enduring the outright tedium of uploading all 7 parts, not once but twice after Rapidshare dropped the original download URLs. Through it all, Furyanthony set a new standard for perseverance, hard-core dedication and extreme "Riddick-style" coolness!

Today is the official one-year anniversary of Riddickstyle!
I'd like to thank everyone for helping make this community-driven site a success. Even with the small amount of official Riddick goings-on, this site has been active every single day since we launched! Keep up the support! Cheers to our moderators Vaako and Domino who have really kept this site going.
Here's to 2008 and beyond! We'll stick to it till there's a sequel, or till Underverse come!

Today's Found Footage feature on the excellent science fiction blog io9 is titled All The Nastiest Parts of Pitch Black.
The piece highlights three of our favorite gore scenes. First, the part where Paris (the author calls him the "foppish antiques dealer," giggle) finds out he won't die in France, but will in fact die momentarily at the hands of a dozen critters for Riddick's entertainment. Next, the part where Johns gets done; no need to elaborate here, I suspect. And last but definitely not least, the peripeteia of the film, Riddick's successful frontal assault on one of the creatures, and subsequent Oscar-worthy one-liner: "Did not know who he was fucking with."
The author betrays an apparently superficial understanding of the film, which actually turns out to make the last bit of the article a little more amusing: he's under the impression that Riddick punches the creature so hard its guts come out! Hurrah!

Embedded in the first post on matsku84's new blog is his latest music-mashup YouTube video based on scenes from the Escape From Butcher Bay Developer's Cut, called "Darkness... You Afraid?" This is the third in a series of similar videos, and they all showcase different elements of the game. Enjoy!

Sci-fi blogger Vrian Sinth over at Martian Outpost posted yesterday a piece entitled The Chronicles of Riddick Review - A Possible Sequel?
Apparently, the author was unaware of David Twohy's recent comments, yet still optimistic for a sequel based on a number of other factors which are outlined nicely.
In conclusion, I think the stars may be aligning themselves in favor of the Riddick universe. Here’s to hoping there’s a sequel in the very near future!
Keep up the core support!

BIG NEWS!
From davidtwohy.com:
Okay, okay, now on to the really important stuff like “What the fuck is happening with RIDDICK?” Yes, I get your emails demanding another movie; yes, I keep bumping into you guys in airports and at conventions and I take your pleas to heart. All I can say now is “We’re talking about it.” The DVD numbers were really good – we know that, and some potential financiers know that. But if another movie surfaces, it probably won’t be a Universal movie and probably will be an independent movie. Which means we’ll have to make it for substantially less than the last installment. But that’s okay. PITCH BLACK was $22 million all in. Maybe it’s time to go back to our roots – as we go on to The UnderVerse.
Yeah baby! This makes my day. :)
Even if it doesn't have the greenlight yet. No Universal is not necessarily a bad thing. When they can find some good financiers who know how Riddick needs to be handled, then it's fine. I guess they could make the sequel with like 50 or 60 million and still keep some continuity from the first Chronicles. I hope they still have parts of the Necropolis set, because they will need it. I wonder if the overall story arc or Riddick's arc will change substantially, because of that.
Because it would be hard to say: "Ok, forget all the Elemental and Furyan stuff, let's just go to the Underverse and kill some monsters, while trying to find and save Kyra..." That would be kind of strange and another simple monster movie wouldn't be that interesting after the set up in the first Chronicles. Anyway, I hope that they will make the movie soon. Dark and R rated!

Here's a set of scans from the German XBox magazine 360 LIVE, issue Q4/2007. (Special thanks to "Riddick" from VX, who bought the magazine, and took the time to scan the article.)
The English translation is found here.
